Charles Dawes:
A Vice Presidential Unit

Charles Dawes was the thirtieth vice president of the United States of America. He was born on August 27, 1865 in Marietta, Ohio. His vice presidential term lasted from 1925-1929 serving under Calvin Coolidge. A trustworthy banker and loyal politician to his people, Charles Dawes was a president with notable recognition for his support efforts in WWI reparations and efficient monetary fiscal accounting. Charles graduated from Marietta College in1884 and soon after applied and received acceptance from Cincinnati Law School in 1886. Aside from studying law, Charles Dawes had a very keen business sense, in which he had become president for various companies located in Illinois such as Northwestern Gas Light and Coke Company. However, his passion was in politics. His early interest in business brought many republicans to awe, and proved worthy enough to be appointed Comptroller of Currency, United States Department of the Treasury. Five years later, Dawes left in order to pursue a position in the U.S. Senate however, was declined as Theodore Roosevelt preferred Dawes’s opponent. During WWI, Charles Dawes was commissioned Major Lieutenant Colonel, and also served as chief of supplies. In 1924, Charles was quickly selected, and had little opposition to his vice presidency. However, had mixed feelings about issues with president Coolidge, one of the biggest conflicts was a bill that was passed by congress, but vetoed by the president that Dawes had supported. Many view Dawes’s vice presidency as one of his least recognizable political strong points, but was solemnly missed by many when he passed away on April 23, 1951.
